"…we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…" — Ephesians 2:10

The Lord wants us engaged in good works — reaching out to meet the spiritual and physical needs of His people. It is true that we are not saved by good works, but we are saved to do good works, for we are created in Christ Jesus for them. Our new nature in Christ draws us toward the good works that please the Lord and strengthen us spiritually, and those who carry this nature are moved to obey God and do His will.

God will never forsake us after remaking us through the new birth. He keeps working in us to conform us to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). In His purpose He has prepared beforehand the very acts of service He intends us to be involved in.

How, then, do we take part in these good works? Scripture answers in the same verse: 'that we should walk in them.' We have a responsibility in the process — to walk with the Lord faithfully, humbly, and dependently, and consistently. To truly walk with God we must submit to Him, trust that His will is best for us, and let Him guide us daily into the good works He has chosen for us.

May the Lord continue to shape you and use you for His glory. Amen!
